Learning from tragedy

Debbie Jones looks at the lessons emerging from an independent review focused on the children found guilty of the deaths of three young people in Croydon.

In Croydon in 2021, five young people died as a result of youth violence. A devastating statement, yet one that will meet with grim recognition. That year was the worst on record for teenage homicides in London – 30 boys lost their lives.

Croydon is home to more young people than anywhere else in the capital; it is our priority to keep them safe, and as a partnership and a community, we are pioneering a new approach.
