Legal experts fear impact of new transparency rules

Local government legal chiefs seek meeting with DCLG to raise ‘major concerns’ over new transparency laws.

Local government legal experts are seeking a meeting with the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to raise ‘major concerns' over new transparency laws, which took effect from Monday.

As reported in The MJ this week, the District Councils' Network (DCN) has complained to Eland House that new measures – contained in the executive arrangements meetings and access to information regulations - would require council officers to provide a written statement covering any executive decision.
