Councils will be under a legal duty to speed up the adoption process as part of a government action plan published this week.

The plan was due to be released after The MJ went to press (14 March), but several key policies were floated last week by the prime minister, David Cameron, on the same day he visited the South Acton Children's Centre in west London.
