Levelling the skills divide

If local and national Government want to counter northern citizens feeling ‘left-behind’, the young need the prospect of real jobs writes Claire Fox.

In my role as a (temporary) elected MEP, I recently visited the Rolls Royce factory in Barnoldswick, Burnley. I hope my observations will be interesting when councils consider policies relating to local job creation and economic development.  

The people who showed me round the factory were so passionate about engineering and the skills of their colleagues that I came away raving about the beauty of engine blades.
