Ministers have again defended the new ‘light touch’ standards regime covering councillor behaviour.

Ministers have again defended the new ‘light touch' standards regime covering councillor behaviour after a survey of local authority lawyers showed 85% feel current sanctions dealing with member misconduct were ‘too weak'.
