Council bosses have hailed proposed legislation to curb rogue scrap metal dealers as a 'huge step forward'.

Speaking after the second reading of the Scrap Metal Dealers Bill last week, the chairman of the Local Government Association's safer and stronger communities board, Cllr Mehboob Khan, said scrap metal thefts were 'spiralling out of control' across the country.
