Michael Gove, has threatened to use new powers to turn under-performing schools into academies.

The education secretary, Michael Gove, has threatened to use new powers to turn under-performing schools into academies during a speech in which he labelled anti-academy teachers and councils as ideologues 'happy with failure'.

Mr Gove attacked 'obstructive' local authorities, which he claimed were 'putting the ideology of central control ahead of the interests of children'.
