LGA and CIPFA to take on audit role

The statutory functions of the Audit Commission are to be handed to the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) when the watchdog is scrapped, it has been revealed.

The statutory functions of the Audit Commission are to be handed to the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) when the watchdog is scrapped, it has been revealed. 

The LGA will set up a private company to take over audit contracts when the Audit Commission closes in March 2015, while CIPFA will establish a new ‘counter-fraud centre'.
