Local authorities should retain powers to monitor academies if standards are to be maintained, council leaders have warned.

Looking to support performance tracking, The Local Government Association (LGA) has called on Government to grant responsibilities over education funding, improvement and intervention to town halls once the majority of an area's schools have become academies.
