LGA defends councils' spend on pensions

The Local Government Association has hit back at criticisms over councils gold-plated pensions.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has hit back at criticisms over councils gold-plated pensions, after it emerged that employer contributions have hit more than £5bn.

According to the latest research from right-wing pressure group, the Taxpayers Alliance, councils are now paying unacceptable levels of money into their pension schemes - and allowing increasing numbers of councillors to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
