The Local Government Association (LGA) has distanced itself from a call by its own resources spokesperson to give councils more freedom on how to spend Whitehall funding.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has distanced itself from a call by its own resources spokesperson to give councils more freedom on how to spend Whitehall funding.

Amid a worsening crisis, Labour chair of the LGA's resources board, Peter Marland, has publicly said councils would be able to prevent homelessness by using the Household Support Fund to pay for rents, particularly in the private sector.
