LGA finance director Goodwin to leave

LGA director of policy and finance Daniel Goodwin, to step down at the end of March – after little more than a year in post.

Local Government Association (LGA) director of policy and finance, Daniel Goodwin, will step down at the end of March – after little more than a year in post.

Former St Albans DC chief executive, Mr Goodwin, who succeeded Stephen Jones in October 2012, is seeking to return to an operational role in local government.

Mr Goodwin has previously worked with for Wealden DC, Peterborough City Council and Brent LBC.

His employers the LGA have announced their intention to recruit an interim replacement.

‘I have had a great year at the LGA, full of valuable experiences, including overseeing the Rewiring Public Services initiative and the LGA's finance work – both of which have had significant impact,' Mr Goodwin said today.

‘However, as time has gone by I have increasingly missed working in a leadership role directly within a community.

‘Now is the right time for me, so that I can openly look for the right role, and for the LGA as it develops this year's extensive programme of work on behalf of councils.'

Chairman of the LGA, Sir Merrick Cockell, said:  ‘I would like to thank Daniel for all his hard work and the valuable contribution he has made to our work during his time here at the LGA and wish him well for the future, back in local government.'
