LGA's first chairman to retire

Lord Jeremy Beecham has annouced he will retire after 55 years in local and national politics.

The first chairman of the Local Government Association has announced his retirement after 55 years in local and national politics.

Lord Jeremy Beecham is to retire as a Newcastle City councillor, where he was also leader from 1977-1994, in May.
