Local authorities should do more in their role as community leaders to tackle the personal debt crisis affecting millions of residents, a think-tank has today urged.

A Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) paper issued today suggests more than three quarters of councils (77%) believe personal debt is either increasing or significantly increasing in their area.
