Ministers will launch a statutory consultation on the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), after town hall employers and trade unions expressed support for pensions reforms.

A joint statement on the consultations issued today confirmed 93% of local government employers and the main trade unions - including Unison (90%), GMB (95%) and Unite (84%) – have all approved the planned pension scheme changes – due to take effect from 2014.
