The benefit cap should be lifted to ensure 36,000 working age families can access the temporary increase in welfare announced as part of the government coronavirus aid package says the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak recently announced a £1000 increase in standard allowances for Universal Credit and restored the link between housing benefit and the bottom 30% of local rents for most private sector tenants, both for one year.
