Council chiefs have hailed the Local Audit and Accountability Act as a 'massive win for the sector’ for inclusion of provisions which ensure the centralised procurement of local audit – potentially saving authorities £200m over five years.

Council chiefs have hailed the Local Audit and Accountability Act as ‘a massive win for the sector' for inclusion of provisions which ensure the centralised procurement of local audit – potentially saving authorities £200m over five years.

The Act, which gained Royal Assent on 30 January, will bring about the closure of the Audit Commission, 30 years after it came into existence, and establish a new framework for local audit.
