TRANSFORMATION

Local authorities in the spotlight: Hit the simplify button

Service director at Peopletoo Selinda Chouhan sets out nine foundations local authorities need to have in place to support the delivery of improvement, transformation and change programmes.

Inspections, regulation, pressured budgets, evolving partnerships and the need to transform and meet the evolving needs of communities...I don't think anybody would dispute it is currently an overwhelming environment for many public sector workers!

There isn't a day that goes by without the publication of a new study, new policy or guidance or a change in policy direction (both locally and nationally). There is the need to keep the plates spinning which can result the system becoming too complicated, conflicted and not focussed on what actually needs to improve. We also look for new ideas, frameworks and new ways of delivering change, and lose focus on some of the tried and tested frameworks which were previously used successfully.
