Local authority landfill waste down

According to DEFRA, local authority-collected waste sent to landfill, decreased during 2010.

The tonnage of local authority collected waste sent to landfill has decreased by 7.7% during 2010 to 11.5 million tonnes, according to figures released by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Other headline figures included the overall proportion of England's waste from residential properties that was recycled or composted reached 40% in the last quarter of 2010.
