Local government minister attacks 'town hall jobsworths' in bins row

Councils should be left to decide how often they collect bins, shadow communities secretary Hilary Benn has said after it emerged local authorities had failed to use a government fund to restore weekly collections.

Councils should be left to decide how often they collect bins, shadow communities secretary Hilary Benn has said after it emerged local authorities had failed to use a government fund to restore weekly collections. 

Mr Benn said councils ‘know best what works for them and their area' and said it was ‘pure hubris to pretend that Whitehall can both do and fix everything itself'.
