The number of local government staff is at its lowest level in 17 years, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

The number of local government staff is at its lowest level in 17 years, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

There were 2.21m UK local government staff in March 2016, 17,000 fewer than at December 2015 and the lowest level shown since 1999.
