What works well in local government

Every chief executive is familiar with problems, challenges and failures – but what about successes? Michael Burton reports on a recent round table debate which looked at the positives in the sector.

There have been plenty of round tables and seminars examining the myriad of challenges facing local government – but instead of looking at what doesn't work, what about feedback or what does work?

That was the premise behind a recent round table with chief executives and senior directors organised by Zurich Municipal (ZM) and chaired by The MJ. As ZM's head of risk David Forster commented: ‘Risk mitigation is about managing challenges. I thought this time we'd look at what works, what makes a difference. There's some great stuff going on and I hope we can share it.'
