Local major transport scheme devolution moves forward with LTBs

Ministers finally confirm plans to devolve local major transport schemes.

The devolution of local major transport schemes took a step forward today as ministers finally confirmed their intention to press ahead with the move.

Plans for local transport bodies (LTBs) – comprising of councils and local enterprise partnerships – to take responsibility for decisions on new transport infrastructure were put out for consultation in January. But the Government failed to meet its deadline to publish firm proposals before Parliament's summer break as ministers stressed they wanted to ensure the correct decisions were taken.
