Keep it local, keep it relevant

The Local Audit and Accountability Act is important to assert the principle of local accountability.

This is a necessary condition of effective local government.  Unless it is clear that the primary accountability of local authorities lies with their local electorates, their basis in local democracy is undermined and there is confusion about where accountability
lies.
