The BNP failed to take a key marginal seat last week, amid mixed signals for its prospects in May's main contests.
Labour held on to the Calderdale seat, but the result was a blow to the BNP, which has the ward's two other councillors.
The BNP also failed to take a marginal at Burnley BC, once seen as a possible control prospect for the party. It went instead to the Lib Dems from Labour. Labour then evened the score, winning a second Burnley seat from the Lib Dems.
Liberal Democrats gained from a residents' group at, Tewkesbury BC, and held on at Huntingdonshire DC, on a 28.7% switch since last May, when Tories had won another ward seat.
