Localised business rates could fund care shake-up

Andrew Dilnot, chair of the Commission on Funding of Care and Support claims full localisation of council business rates could fund long-term recommendations.

Andrew Dilnot, chair of the government's Commission on Funding of Care and Support, has claimed full localisation of council business rates could potentially be used to fund the commission's recommendations.

Speaking to The MJ before a conference in Surrey for councillors and carers last week, Mr Dilnot said: ‘If full localisation of business rates led to a net increase in the amount of money to local authorities then that would be one way the government could provide funding.'
