Localism pays price in planning fees hike

Deciding against allowing local authorities to set their own planning fees is as an opportunity missed says Piers Mason.

The Government had considered allowing local authorities to set their own planning fees but, in the end, decided against this aspect of localism. Piers Mason regards it as an opportunity missed.

The minister for decentralisation and cities, Greg Clark, recently announced an increase in planning fees, which came as a not-unexpected surprise. Which might sound like a contradiction but... hold on a minute.
