'Locals' to decide on traveller sites

New planning guidance gives councils the responsibility to determine the level of traveller site provisions in their area.

Councils will have responsibility for determining the level of traveller site provision in their area, in consultation with local communities, under new planning guidance published by ministers this week.

The guidance makes clear there should be ‘due regard for the protection of the local environment and amenities' when local authorities set out their criteria for allocating sites.
