'Give London autonomy' call to decide fiscal future

Plans for a new finance regime for London, calling for more autonomy for the mayor and the boroughs have been unveiled by academic, Tony Travers.

As chair of the London Finance Commission, Mr Travers has claimed the capital sees just 7% of the taxes paid by residents and businesses being retained by the mayor and the boroughs. ‘The equivalent figure in New York is over 50%.
