London boroughs forge ahead in fair-wage race

The London boroughs of Islington and Lewisham have become the first local authorities in the UK to earn Living Wage Employer accreditation.

The London boroughs of Islington and Lewisham have become the first local authorities in the UK to earn Living Wage Employer accreditation.

Both councils already pay their staff at least the London living wage (LLW) of £8.30 per hour and have agreed a deadline by which all their contractors will either pay their employees the living wage, or the authorities will look for alternative providers.
