The number of Londoners wanting greater fiscal devolution has trebled to 60% in the last four years, pollsters have discovered.

A ComRes online poll of 1,051 London adults, 503 business decision makers and 150 borough councillors revealed three-in-five residents of the capital wanted control over spending and expenditure, a massive increase on the 20% figure recorded in the last survey in 2011.

In contrast, nearly nine-in-ten (89%) of councillors wanted greater fiscal freedoms, while London's business leaders were more cautious, with 56% in favour of more devolution.
