'Long-term damage risk' to UK network

The Government’s decision to reduce funding for highways maintenance will cut the quality of local roads and risks ramping up long-term costs for councils, the NAO has warned.

The Government's decision to reduce funding for highways maintenance will cut the quality of local roads and risks ramping up long-term costs for councils, the National Audit Office (NAO) has warned.

Issued on 25 October, the new report – entitled Funding for local transport – also warns ministers must be clear about who they see taking forward decision-making following the devolution of local major transport schemes.
