A group of charities has warned against knee-jerk reactions in the aftermath of last month's riots, and called for a long-term government response.

More than 100 representatives from voluntary groups were brought together last week by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) to discuss the role the third sector could play in helping rebuild communities, and were also joined by the Conservatives' minister for civil society, Nick Hurd.
