A long way to go

As Matt Prosser prepares to trade the rolling hills of Dorset for the windy shores of Wellington, New Zealand, he talks to Heather Jameson about reorganisation and relocation

Dorset Council chief executive Matt Prosser has dedicated more than three decades to local government in the UK – 11 years as chief executive – and has been on the frontline of some significant changes, including one of local government's more recent reorganisations.

During his time in Dorset he oversaw the merger of six councils into one – a process he describes as both challenging and rewarding, and a journey many of his colleagues now find themselves on.
