A recent survey by the District Councils' Network (DCN) has highlighted that over 100 leisure centres in England are at risk of closure due to the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic, with an alarming 80% warning that they will have no choice but to strip back services. The survey further identifies a £325m funding gap.
The potential closures or reductions in services couldn't come at a worse time, as the population slowly begins to recover from the ongoing effects of the 15-month pandemic, including mental health, obesity, loneliness and isolation issues and an urgent need to support the physical and mental wellbeing of residents and visitors alike.
