The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) must tighten the ‘unacceptably loose' management' of controversial medical assessments used to check disabled people's benefit entitlements, MPs have reported.
According to a National Audit Office study, Atos Healthcare invoiced the DWP for £112m after completing 738,000 face-to-face medical inspections with claimants either seeking employment and support allowance (ESA) or reassessment of existing claims for incapacity benefit in 2011/12.
