Manchester councils' consortium buys Stansted

Manchester Airports Group, is buying Stansted airport for £1.5bn it has been announced.

Manchester Airports Group (MAG), a holding company owned by the 10 borough councils of Greater Manchester, is buying Stansted airport for £1.5bn it has been announced.

Heathrow Airport Holdings (HAH), formerly called BAA, had to sell the airport following a 2009 ruling by the Competition Commission, which addressed concerns over the lack of competition between London's three airports, all owned by HAH.
