A nationwide investigation by the Local Government Association (LGA) has found that councils joining together and sharing services has already saved the council taxpayer £156.5m.

Across England alone, 219 councils are now sharing services, including IT, procurement, libraries, adult and children's services, and recycling and waste collection.
