Leicester City Council's directly-elected mayor has scrapped a report recommending his salary should be almost doubled.

Councillors were due to discuss an independent report this week, which had proposed a salary increase for Sir Peter Soulsby of £44,000. But the document was leaked last week, and a local outcry ensued – prompting the authority to ditch the plan. The mayor has instead ordered a new review by a different panel.
