'Mayor's senate' would help shape Whitehall policies

A ‘mayor’s senate’ should be established to help shape government policies as Whitehall struggles with capacity issues, a think-tank has suggested.

A ‘mayor's senate' should be established to help shape government policies as Whitehall struggles with capacity issues, a think-tank has suggested.

In a report on the future of local democracy, the LGiU said a senate made up of directly-elected mayors and other local leaders should be given a ‘powerful constitutional role in shaping and scrutinising government policy'.
