The influential Centre for Cities think-tank this week joined calls for directly-elected mayors to become ‘metro mayors', with greater powers to influence economic growth and services across local authority boundaries.

Centre for Cities outlined its stance at the launch of its data study, Mayoral manoeuvres, looking at the task facing potential elected mayors.
