The number of elderly people receiving meals on wheels from councils has halved in the last four years, Labour's shadow care minister has warned.

According to figures released by Liz Kendall over the weekend, the number of pensioners receiving local authority-funded meals has fallen from 300,000 in 2010 to around 109,000 in the last 12 months.
