An influential group of MPs report councillors should be handed greater powers to fulfil their increasingly community-based role.

Councillors should be handed greater powers and support to fulfil their increasingly community-based role, an influential group of MPs has reported.

A report by the communities and local government (CLG) select committee published today urges both local and central government to devolve powers and resources to help councillors manage their work on the frontline, such as dealing with constituents, businesses, voluntary bodies and GPs.
