Merger of W Midlands cash pot wins backing

Lord Heseltine, the Government’s growth adviser, has backed a West Midlands-based pilot which could help merge £49bn of Whitehall funding into a single contestable cash pot.

Lord Heseltine, the Government's growth adviser, has backed a West Midlands-based pilot which could help merge £49bn of Whitehall funding into a single contestable cash pot.

The Conservative peer, a former deputy prime minister, will advise a three-month review, known as the Greater Birmingham Project, exploring how the city-region could manage responsibilities currently held by Whitehall departments, in order to drive local growth.
