Merging shared services could 'save half a billion'

Government departments will seek to merge their shared services into five centres, in an attempt to make annual savings worth up to £600m, ministers have announced.

Government departments will seek to merge their shared services into five centres, in an attempt to make annual savings worth up to £600m, ministers have announced.

As part of a blueprint, published on 28 December, functions such as HR, procurement, finance and payroll, will be spread among three existing government centres and two independent hubs by July 2015.
