Marsham Street has still not agreed its ‘escalation process' in the case of a no-deal Brexit causing social care provider failure, a leaked document has revealed.
With a month to go until Britain is due to leave the EU and no-deal still on the table, the Government believes ‘local authority failure' is a key risk due to a range of reasons, including providers handing back contracts, workforce shortages driving up costs – leading to councils being unable to fulfil their statutory duty to balance their budgets - an economic downturn prompting increased pressure on funding and returnees from the EU driving up demand for social care.
