Mind the skills gap

Garry Phillips says it is time to build the partnership between councils, education and local employers if the country is to fill the skills hole after Brexit

According to September's figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), there are 2.23m EU migrants working in the UK. Many of them are working in areas where we have traditionally had a shortage of skilled UK workers, such as technology, engineering and health.

Following the Brexit vote, there is a real concern that this pool of easily accessible skilled labour from Europe could dry up, and the country could be facing less of a skills gap and more of a skills chasm.
