Referendums should not be held over whether to have directly elected mayors, local government minister Baroness Williams has said.

Referendums should not be held over whether to have directly elected mayors, local government minister Baroness Williams has said.

Speaking in the House of Lords yesterday, she said devolution deals ‘replicated' the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, which provided for resolutions of councils instead of referendums when introducing a mayoral model.
