Cost-effective methods to tackle environmental issues at a local authority level have been praised by environment minister, Richard Benyon.

Mr Benyon made the comments at a 25 October summit on the ‘total environment' agenda, which has seen councils join with the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to encourage improvements to local flood defences and wildlife protection, and to provide better green spaces in planning developments.
