Kirkby is set to benefit from a £200m regeneration scheme led by Tesco, after communities secretary, Eric Pickles, gave his approval to the project.

A previous submission to revamp the Merseyside town centre with a flagship supermarket and other improvements was ruled out in 2009, following a lengthy public inquiry.
